GLIAC CHAMPIONS! Ferris State Men's Tennis Wins Outright Conference Regular-Season Title

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad captured the outright 2023 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular-Season Championship as the Bulldogs registered a 7-0 sweep over Michigan Tech on Saturday (April 15) in Houghton.

The win lifted FSU to a perfect 6-0 in the GLIAC and came in the regular-season finale for FSU, which also secured the top seed for the upcoming league tournament with the triumph.

The Bulldogs claimed their 20th all-time conference title by topping the Huskies. Ferris State last won the GLIAC regular-season crown two years ago in 2021 and the Bulldogs have now won six of the last eight regular-season titles that have been awarded.

Ferris State controlled play against the Huskies, dominating the doubles round for the initial point by taking all three flights in decisive fashion. In singles play, Ferris State captured all six flights, which included a pair of three-set decisions.

"I'm so proud of this group to come on this long road trip and stay focused," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "We treated today like we were playing one of the top teams in the country and it showed in our play."

The GLIAC Tournament will take place Friday thru Sunday, April 21-23, at the Midland Tennis Center. As the number one seed, FSU will earn a first-round bye and compete in the second round on Saturday (April 22) starting at 10 a.m. (ET) if played outdoors or 12 p.m. (ET) inside. The championship match is Sunday.
