SVSU men drop series opener at Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team hit the road for the first of two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contests at the University of Wisconsin Parkside Friday in Kenosha, Wis.

After Myles Belyeu pulled SVSU within one point on a bucket with 1:53 to play, the Rangers closed the game on a 7-2 run to top the Cardinals 71-65. The loss drops SVSU to 2-6 overall and 2-6 in the GLAIC.

Belyeu led the Cardinals with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, adding five rebounds and fours steals. Delano Smith finished with a double-double, recording 17 points and 12 rebounds. Zane Foster added nine points and seven rebounds, while Darnell Hoskins Jr. finished with seven points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

The Cardinals shot 26-of-55 from the field, 4-of-17 from deep and 9-of-14 from the line. SVSU recorded 11 assists, nine steals and 17 turnovers.

Parkside (5-3, 5-3 GLIAC) was led by Brandon Hau with 18 points, while Ramar Evans added 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

The Cardinals and Rangers close the two-game weekend series at 4 pm Saturday in Kenosha, Wis.
