Men's Tennis Earns Road Victory Against Findlay

The Warriors have won four straight matches.

FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (5-1 overall) has now won five of its first six matches to open the season, with the latest victory coming against Findlay (2-4 overall).  The Warriors upended the Oilers, 6-1. 

SINGLES
Dom Spicer (London, England) moved up to No. 1 singles and was able to post a 6-4, 6-0 victory. 

Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) was impressive at No. 3 singles, notching a 6-0, 6-1 win. 

Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) had a similar outcome at No. 4 singles, collecting a 6-1, 6-0 victory. 

Ben Lakeman (Penzance Cornwall, England) also earned a win for the Warriors, defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.  

At No. 2 singles, Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) upended his opponent, 6-2, 6-4. 

David Pluszczyk (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland) fell at No. 6 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 4-10. 

DOUBLES
WSU was strong at doubles, winning all three matches.  Karcz and Joe Steele (Beverly Hills, Mich. / U. of Detroit Jesuit) won their No. 3 doubles match, 6-2. 

Lakeman and Spicer tallied a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Playing in the top spot, Drenth and Grey emerged victorious, 6-3.

"Probably the best singles we've played, one through five, all year.  We played lights out.  Unbelievably well in singles.  All the guys looked good," coach Bryan Morrow said.  "Proud of the guys.  Couldn't be happier with the singles performance.  Hopefully we can keep getting better.  Good Findlay team.  I expect they'll have a good season." 

UP NEXT
The Green and Gold have some time off before hitting the court again.  The Warriors' next match is set for Feb. 26 against Hillsdale.  That match is set for 5 PM at Franklin Racquet Club.
