Men's Basketball Wins on Wednesday Night

Wayne State handled Central State in the final non-conference game of the season.

WILBERFORCE, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (4-11 overall) topped Central State (4-17 overall) 69-50 on Wednesday night in the final non-conference game of the season.  The victory snapped a four-game losing streak and gives WSU its first road victory since last season's regular season finale at Northern Michigan (Feb, 24, 2018).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was tied 6-6 early in the first half at the 16:58 mark.  Central State connected on back-to-back three-pointers, taking a 12-8 lead with 15 minutes to play.  A steal by Darian Owens-White (Ypsilanti, Mich. / River Rouge) led to a Javon Henderson (Detroit, Mich. / University Prep) layup to give the Warriors a 15-14 lead at the 12:19 mark.  Karim Murray (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) tied the game at 19-19 with 9:41 remaining in the period and another bucket by Murray on the ensuing possession pushed WSU ahead 21-19.  Owens-White connected on his second three-pointer of the night, extending the visitors' advantage to 27-21 at the 6:11 mark.  The Green & Gold led 29-25 with three minutes left in the half before Latin Davis, Jr. (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Milan) gave Wayne State a 32-25 lead with a three-pointer.  CSU hit a triple as time expired to trim WSU's lead to 36-30.

The Warriors took a 40-30 lead to begin the second half but the Marauders responded with a 6-0 run to pull within four at the 16:49 mark.  A Henderson layup with 15:11 left to play gave WSU a 44-36 lead.  Wayne State led 52-36 midway through the stanza after a trey by from Davis.  WSU's defense continued to stifle CSU and the margin grew to 57-38 after another triple from Davis at the 8:17 mark.  With five minutes left in regulation, Wayne State led 59-44.  A Henderson dunk at the 2:57 mark stretched WSU's lead to 63-46 as the Warriors would coast to a 69-50 victory.
