Bulldogs Snatch Road Victory At Michigan Tech

Houghton, Mich. - The Ferris State women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory at Michigan Tech on Sunday (Sept. 18) at Kearly Stadium.

In her Ferris State debut in goal, sophomore Lauren Kubacki navigated three saves for her first collegiate victory and shutout for the Bulldogs.

The game remained scoreless until the 41st minute of the match when senior Nikki May got loose on a run down the middle. Senior Isabella Zamborini centered a ball that May one-timed past MTU goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde for a 1-0 Bulldog lead. The goal was May's first of the year, while Zamborini picked up her team leading third assist and seventh point on the play.

Ferris State finished the game with a 12-9 advantage in shots, with a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Michigan Tech had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks, with a 3-1 advantage in the second half alone.

It was a physical affair that featured 34 fouls and five yellow cards. 

On the day, May led all shooters with four shots with two attempts on goal. Kubacki moved to 1-0-0 in goal for the Bulldogs with her first career clean sheet while VanLangevelde took the loss in goal for Michigan Tech on three saves.

Ferris State returns home to face off with Purdue Northwest on Friday (Sept. 23) on Alumni Appreciation day. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldogs will begin a four game homestand that will see them square off against Wisconsin-Parkside (Sept. 25), Saginaw Valley State (Sept. 30) and a non-conference duel with Northwood (Oct. 3).
