Dragons sink Storm from the charity stripe

The Tiffin University women's basketball team earned a hard fought 64-59 victory over the Lake Erie College Storm on Thursday evening. Tiffin hit clutch free throws down the stretch to thwart a Storm comeback.

The Dragons were on from the start, jumping out to a 14-6 lead midway through the opening quarter. Tiffin hit three 1st quarter 3-point field goals, and were steady at the free throw line, hitting 9 of 10 attempts to lead 24-17 after a quarter of play.

Lake Erie cooled the Dragons' offense in the 2nd quarter, holding Tiffin to nine points. Lake Erie picked up the pace on their end of the floor, pouring in 16 points to tie the score 33-33 headed to halftime.

Tiffin regrouped and found their offense again, tossing in a pair of triples along with eight made free throws to score 18 points. The Dragons' defense kept Lake Erie at a distance, holding the Storm to only three made field goals.

Tiffin, holding a 51-43 lead entering the final quarter, had a fight on their hand in the 4th. Tiffin watched as their lead slowly evaporated with a Lake Erie 10-1 run, taking a 53-52 lead with 04:43 remaining. Lake Erie added to their lead, jumping ahead 57-54 with 02:58 to play. An Allie Miller 3-pointer and layup gave the Dragons the lead back at 59-57, but the Storm wouldn't go quietly, pulling even with Tiffin at 59-59. The aforementioned clutch free throw shooting by the Dragons came in the final two minutes of play, as Tiffin hit 5 of 6 attempts to seal a 64-59 GLIAC victory. 

Bre Nauman led the way for Tiffin, scoring a team high 23 points and snagging 9 rebounds. Allie Miller scored 14 points, hitting four treys, and Kristen Massey added 10 points and 7 rebounds. The Storm, averaging only 13.2 turnovers per game (2nd in the GLIAC and 16th in the NCAA), turned the ball over 15 times, leading to 21 Tiffin points.

Tiffin moves to 6-14 overall and 4-11 in GLIAC play.
