SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Wayne State University women's tennis team (1-0 Overall) swept Lawrence Tech (0-1 Overall) 4-0 at the Franklin Racquet Club on Thursday afternoon.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Senior
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) and senior
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) earned a 6-0 victory at second doubles.
Junior
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) and senior
Stephanie Stamate (Windsor, Ontario) were 6-0 winners at No. 3 doubles.
Freshmen
Suki Mandair (Dexter, Mich. / Ann Arbor Skyline) and
Melanie Zampardo (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / University Liggett) earned a 7-6 (3) victory in number one doubles.
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Zampardo notched a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No.4 singles, while junior
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind. / Hobart) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
Senior
Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) won her No.1 singles match 6-1, 6-0.
Mandair was leading 6-4, 5-0 at No. 2 singles.
Douglas had a 6-4, 2-0 advantage at third singles, while sophomore
Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) was leading 6-2, 3-0 at No. 5 singles.
