Men's Tennis Blanks Lawrence Tech, 7-0

The Warriors have won five straight matches.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (5-0 overall) notched a 7-0 road victory after sweeping Lawrence Tech (2-4 overall) on Thursday afternoon.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Freshman Dom Spicer (London, England) and sophomore David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) were first off the courts after nearly sweeping Lukas Obel and William Burgess 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

"No. 2 doubles played solid today," commented head coach Bryan Morrow.  "They returned and served well for a pretty easy match."

Sophomore Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) and senior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) clinched the WSU doubles point with a 6-3 win vs. Pedro Garcia-Orellana and Nicolas DaMotta at No. 3 doubles.

"We had a couple of early looks to break serves but we did not capitalize on them until later in the set for a win," recalled Morrow.

At No. 1 doubles, junior Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and freshman Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) fell 6-3 to Alexander Tammaro and Alex Fernandez-Rajal.

"Lawrence Tech had a quick break on us," stated Morrow.  "We had some looks at getting the lead, but unfortunately we couldn't break back.  There was not great energy at No. 1 doubles today."

SINGLES RESULTS
Laws was first off the courts after blanking Burgess 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

"Luke made very few errors," Morrow commented.  "He played just about the cleanest match that could be played.  His opponent had no answers for him."

At No. 2 singles, Renaudie notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Garcia-Orellana.

"Pierre played a nice match at No. 2 singles," remarked Morrow.  "It was probably the most complete match that he has played all year.  He didn't have any big letdowns."

Spicer won his No. 5 singles match 6-4, 6-1 against Obel.

"Dom started a little slow but came roaring back," stated Morrow.  "He was named Player of the Game after his performance today."

After falling 6-4 in the first set and winning 6-1 in the second, Rink pulled out a 10-8 victory in a super tiebreaker versus Rajal at No. 3 singles.

"Max played a bit of an awkward player," commented Morrow.  "He lost the first set, but came storming back for the second set and the super tiebreaker."

At No. 6 singles, Solar tallied a 6-2, 6-3 win vs. DaMotta.

"David played solid in his No. 6 singles match," remarked Morrow.

Karcz was the last to finish after notching a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Tammaro at No. 1 singles.

"Niklas started a little slow," stated Morrow.  "They were on serve until 5-5 and then Niklas broke.  He started playing better and a little freer in the second set."

WARRIOR STRONG
Spicer received the Match Ball after winning his No. 2 doubles (6-1) and No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-1) matches.  Spicer is currently 4-1 in both singles and doubles matches.
