Men's Tennis Upended 5-2 by Lee

The Warriors will travel to No. 5-Saint Leo on Tuesday.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (8-4 overall) suffered a 5-2 loss to Lee University (4-5 overall) on Monday.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Senior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) and sophomore Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) were first off the courts after a 6-3 loss against Cristian Pons and Drew Johnston at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 1 doubles, junior Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and freshman Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) were edged 6-4 by Bruno Medeiros and Jesus Garcia.

Sophomore David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) and freshman Dom Spicer (London, England) were topped 6-4 by Nico Ramirez and Antonio Pons.

"Lee is a very solid team from Tennessee and looked comfortable playing outside," stated head coach Bryan Morrow.  "We lost all three doubles matches and did not play with the aggressiveness that we needed to today.  We competed a little passive and did not play very good doubles matches."

SINGLES RESULTS
Laws was first to finish after falling in a super tiebreaker versus Antonio Pons at No. 5 singles (6-1, 3-6, 10-8).

At No. 4 singles, Spicer was edged 6-3, 6-4 by Cristian Pons.

Rink tallied the first WSU point at No. 3 singles after notching a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 super-tiebreak victory over Medeiros.

At No. 1 singles, Renaudie dropped his match 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 to Garcia.

Karcz was topped 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 in a close No. 2 singles match against Ramirez.

Solar recorded the second Warrior point at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win vs. Johnston.

"We competed really well in singles and had nice matches everywhere," commented Morrow.  "They were hard-fought matches and had a couple of tiebreakers that were lost in the first set at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.  Luke lost the first set and came back nicely in the second set, but lost his third-set breaker.  Max lost the first set but battled back in the second set and won the tiebreaker.  David also played really well.  We lost to a very good team and we need to continue to get better in these situations and in competing."
