Ferris State Edges Rival Grand Valley State To Remain GLIAC's Lone Unbeaten Squad

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 21st-ranked Ferris State University women's tennis squad topped West Michigan rival Grand Valley State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) showdown on Wednesday (April 14) afternoon.

The Bulldogs claimed the league victory at the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Center, earning their second win in as many days in a potential battle for first place in the GLIAC standings following an impressive win on Tuesday at longtime tennis rival Northwood.

With the win, FSU remains the only school without a loss in conference play, improving to 11-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the GLIAC standings with three regular-season matches remaining. The win was also Ferris State's 11th in a row this season.

The Bulldogs took the top two doubles spots to score the initial point in the match and then managed to split the six singles flights in posting the triumph.

In singles play, FSU got victories at the top two flights with Morgan Waller emerging on top at one singles and Sophie Daavettila at the second position. The Bulldogs' Agata Klak was also a winner in four singles competition. All six singles flights were determined in straight-sets.

Grand Valley State fell to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the GLIAC with the setback.

Presently, FSU's 6-0 mark in the conference sits alone in first place with Northwood second (5-1) and GVSU third (5-2).

Ferris State will travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula this weekend, facing Lake Superior State on Friday (April 16) and Michigan Tech on Saturday (April 17). The Bulldogs then close out the regular-season on Tuesday (April 20) at Saginaw Valley State.
