Men's Tennis Keeps Rolling With Win Over Walsh

The Warriors won eight of the nine matches.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (4-1 overall) collected its third straight victory, defeating Walsh (6-2 overall), 6-1, Sunday afternoon at Peachtree Tennis Club. 

SINGLES
The Warriors won five of the six singles matches against the Cavaliers.  Dom Spicer (London, England) collected a win at No. 2 singles, defeating his opponent, 6-3, 6-1. 

At No. 3 singles, Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory. 

Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) won his match, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. 

Playing at No. 5 singles, Ben Lakeman (Penzance Cornwall, England) was able to earn a 6-3, 6-2 victory. 

David Pluszczyk (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland) was the other winner in singles, grabbing a 6-2, 6-3 decision at the No. 6 singles spot. 

Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) was upended at No. 1 singles, 6-7 (6), 6-7 (2). 

DOUBLES
Lakeman and Spicer were dominant at No. 2 doubles, collecting a 6-0 victory. 

Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) and Karcz also won their match, earning a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. 

At No. 1 doubles, Drenth and Grey were able to pull out a 6-4 win.

"Started really hot in doubles.  Really proud of the energy the boys came with today.  We played very solid at all doubles spots, especially No. 2 doubles," coach Bryan Morrow said.  "Couldn't be prouder of the boys.  They stepped up and really showed up today and played a really good match." 

UP NEXT
The Warriors will hit the court again on Feb. 18 at Findlay.  That match will begin at 2 PM.
