Dragons Split Doubleheader with Wayne State

The Tiffin University baseball team split the doubleheader against Wayne State, taking game one 5-2, and dropping the second game 7-2.

The Dragons improve to 3-5 overall, while the Warriors improve to 3-1 so far this year.

Game One:

Tiffin was victorious over Wayne State 5-2 in game one of the doubleheader.

The Dragons opened the scoring in the second inning when Cal Brazier homered on the first pitch with Ricky Havrilla on base to lead 2-0. The next inning the Warriors tied up the contest at 2-2 after two walks with the bases loaded.

The Dragons quickly took back the lead as Jake Shier hit a line-drive double to left field and advanced to third on a passed ball. Three batters later Thomas Auth hit a sac fly to bring in Shier to take a 3-2 lead.

Tiffin added to their lead in the fourth as Marino Pugnetti hit a double to right field to score Ty Hatfield to lead 4-2. The Dragons scored one more in the fifth as Auth doubled to score Shier from second to lead 5-2.

Auth and Brazier led the team each with two RBI with Auth going 1-for-2 and Brazier going 1-for-3 with a home run, and Jake Shier led the team with two runs scored.

Mat Carden got the win as he pitched in relief of Alan Meadows for 3.2 innings, allowing no runs, one hit, and had two strikeouts.

Game Two:

The Warriors hit a three-run home run in the first inning to get on the board first, but the Dragons came back to score two more runs in the third inning off a Griffin Stevens two-run home run to cut the lead down to 3-2.

Wayne State scored one more in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to seal the 7-2 win over the Dragons.

Griffin Stevens did well, going 2-for-3, scoring one run, and two RBI and Thomas Auth went 2-for-4.

Kyler Archual took the loss as he pitched 4.0 innings, allowed four runs on five hits, and struck out three.
