Ferris State Women's Tennis Kicks Off Spring Season With Exhibition Setback At NCAA D1 Western Michigan

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad kicked off spring semester action with a 7-0 exhibition setback to NCAA Division I Western Michigan on Sunday (Jan. 22) at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo.

The host Broncos took the first two completed doubles flights and swept the singles round in garnering the win.

Ferris State battled the Broncos well in doubles action with the tandem of Ana Sofia Hernandez and Maria Fernanda Hernandez tied up 4-4 in unfinished action at the second doubles spot in the lineup.

In singles competition, Ana Sofia Hernandez won the opening set before falling in a third-set tiebreaker at three singles.

Overall, a total of seven different Bulldogs competed in the match towards the final team score.

Ferris State, which went 2-0 in the fall in dual action, will return to regular-season play on Saturday, Feb. 4, when FSU plays host to former GLIAC rival Northwood starting at 10:30 a.m. (ET) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs will play a total of six matches in the month of February along wtih four more during a spring break trip to Florida in early March before beginning Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at home against Wayne State on March 24.
