Softball Drops Two To Davenport, 6-1 and 7-1

LOCATION: Farmers Insurance Complex – Caledonia, Michigan

RECAP: Northwood began GLIAC play today versus Davenport (April 2).  The Timberwolves weren't themselves today as they dropped two against Davenport.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • It was a sloppy first inning from both teams which resulted in a 1-1 ball game.  Both teams allowed an unearned run via error.
  • A Haley Frank single and throwing error got her to third. Delanie Grundman then followed with a single through the left side to score Frank to make it a 1-1 game.
  • Davenport left six runners on base through the first three innings.
  • It wasn't until DU broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth. The Panthers started the half-inning off with a three-run home run to put the score to 4-1, DU.
  • Two batters later, DU put another one over the centerfield wall to make it 6-1, DU.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Davenport went out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first behind a lead-off single, stolen base, and an RBI single.
  • The Panthers would go on to tack on five more runs in the second behind three walks and four hits, 6-0 DU. The Panthers had two extra-base hits to help extend their lead.
  • NU got one back in the top of the third behind a Haley Frank double down the left-field line. Frank advanced to third with a subsequent groundout and was knocked in with an RBI groundout from Delanie Grundman.
  • DU would tack on one more in the bottom of the fourth. A single then another single with an error in left field would allow a DU runner to score from first, 7-1 DU.
  • Brynn Polega managed to come in and pitch 4.0 innings of zero earned run softball to finish the game for the Timberwolves.

UP NEXT

Northwood is back tomorrow (April 3) to take on Grand Valley in Allendale at 1 PM and 3 PM. This will be their first meeting with the Timberwolves since the GLIAC tournament championship game last season.
