Huskies fall to Lakers 5-2

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Huskies took the team doubles point, but ultimately fell 5-2 to Lake Superior State at Arbuckle Student Center Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's tennis match.

"It was unfortunate we had just four available players in singles today, but our goal today was to keep those who played healthy and we did that," said head coach Kristin Yep. "I feel optimistic about our chances heading into the conference tournament next week and I felt we played well in doubles today as well."

Dominika Bobik outplayed Nadege Koua to pick up an MTU point at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3. Nicole Ballach and Lauren Opalewski also found success in doubles as the duo dispatched Maddie Whip and Muskaan Ranjan 6-1. Chiara Heinz and Marina Fernandez also won at No. 3 doubles 6-3 against Claudia Sole and Julia Fraile.

Michigan Tech (3-9, 3-5 GLIAC) earned the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament and will likely face Grand Valley State (13-5, 7-1) in the quarterfinals.
