UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University softball team continued to roll through the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a pair of wins against Wayne State University on Tuesday at the SVSU Softball Complex.

The Cardinals stifled the Warriors for a 6-0 win in game one, while the SVSU offense used the long ball early to pull away for a 6-2 victory in the finale. The sweep pushes SVSU's win streak to 10 games, as the Cardinals hold a record of 28-12 overall and 14-4 in the GLIAC.

The 10 consecutive wins for the Cardinals are the most for the program in one season since 2016. SVSU won 15 straight games across two seasons in 2020 and 2021.

Game One Breakdown:

• After a double from Sara Moos put runners on second and third in the second inning, the Cardinals got on the board on a wild pitch followed by a sacrifice fly from Blasia Moyler later in the frame.
• The score remained 2-0 until SVSU plated four runs in the sixth to pull away.
• Leah Denome got the scoring started in the sixth with an RBI single followed by an RBI double from Jackie Popko to extend the lead to 4-0.
• SVSU pushed the advantage to six runs with an RBI single from Meagan VerVaecke, the reigning GLIAC Player of the Week, followed by an RBI double by Moyler.
• Emily Depew (10-7) cruised to a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits, walking one, and striking out nine.
• Moyler finished with two RBIs, while Popko scored two runs.

Game Two Breakdown:

• Popko had the big hit early with a three-run home run in the first to score Julia Salisbury and Denome.
• VerVaecke added a run on a solo home run later in the inning to put SVSU up 4-0.
• The Cardinals added a run on a wild pitch in the fourth, while Moos singled home Jessica Kreuzer in the fifth.
• Newly crowned GLIAC Pitcher of the Week, Julia Mundy, held a perfect game through 5.2 innings before the Warriors found three straight hits to get on the board with a pair of runs in the sixth.
• Mundy (10-2) tossed six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walking one, and striking out three.
• Moos and Moyler each finished with three hits.
