Oilers Split with West Virginia Wesleyan

The University of Findlay baseball team split a doubleheader with West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 7 in Winter Haven, Fla.  The Oilers won the first game 10-3 and then lost 7-6 in the second contest of the day.

In the first game, Devon Christian was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and stole second on the second pitch to set the tone.  Eric Terwilliger was also hit by a pitch, which preceded a single from Reid Rothenbuhler, which scored Christian. 

Later in the inning, Tommy Roush doubled home a pair of runs and later came around to score on a double by Victor Migliore.

West Virginia Wesleyan scored two runs in the second, but the Oilers got two more for them in the third as Christian and Terwilliger each drove in runs.

The Oilers would tack on another run in the fifth with Blake Schmenk tripled and scored on a ground out by Roush.

Christian hit a triple in the sixth to score Dustin Zielaskiewicz and Nathaniel Fitch doubled home two runs in the seventh.

Aaron Geis went the distance to pick up the win by allowing three runs on five hits.  He struck out seven and walked two batters in the victory.

In game two, the Oilers gave up four runs in the first, but battled back to take a 6-5 lead in the fifth .  West Virginia Wesleyan tied the game in the sixth and rallied with two outs in the seventh to take a 7-6 lead as the Oilers went down in order in their half of the inning.

Ethan James took the loss by allowing seven runs on 11 hits.
