Men's Tennis Collects Road Win Over Toledo

Daniel Grey, Niklas Karcz, Cedric Drenth and David Pluszczyk collected wins in singles.

TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (1-0 overall) collected a 4-3 road victory over a Division 1 foe in the University of Toledo (1-4 overall) Friday night. 

DOUBLES
The pair of Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) and Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) dropped their No. 1 doubles match, 6-4. 

At No. 2 doubles, Dom Spicer (London, England) and Ben Lakeman (Penzance Cornwall, England) were defeated by a final score of 6-4. 

After losing the first two doubles matches, the No. 3 doubles match was stopped, with the Rockets earning the doubles point. 

SINGLES
At No. 2 singles, Grey collected a 6-4, 6-2 victory. 

Karcz also posted a win, with his victory coming at No. 3 singles.  He won his match, 6-1, 6-2. 

David Pluszczyk (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland) posted a win at No. 6 singles.  He defeated his opponent, 6-3, 6-2. 

To clinch the match, Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) collected a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory. 

Spicer fell 2-6, 1-6 at No. 1 singles.

At No. 4 singles, Lakeman came up short, losing 6-7 (6-8), 2-6.

"The energy was unbelievable.  All the guys came to play today.  We played really, really well at all the spots," Morrow said.  "It all came down to the freshman, Cedric (Drenth), and he pulled out an incredible win.  Showed a ton of guts.  Really pulled out a great win for us.  Couldn't be prouder of the boys." 

UP NEXT
The Warriors will be back in action tomorrow against Northwestern Ohio.  The match is set to begin at 1 PM in Lima, Ohio.
