Men's Tennis Drops GLIAC Match Against Ferris State

SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's tennis team fell to the Ferris State Bulldogs by a final score of 5-2 on Friday, April 16 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match in the Student Activity Center in Sault Ste Marie, Mich. Through the first seven matches of the season, the Lakers hold an 0-7 overall record and an 0-5 record in conference play.

The Lakers dropped the doubles point against the Warriors as the visitors won all three matches.  Lake Superior State's first pair (Juho Kantola/Harris Rehan) and third pair (Diego Penz/Seth Pinnoo) both fell in tight 7-5 matches. 

In singles play, the Lakers won two of the six matches against the Bulldogs. The Lakers top singles player, Kantola, won his match following a retirement from the Bulldogs player. Kantola won the first match by a score of 6-3 and was leading 3-2 in the second match at the time of the retirement. Rehan, playing in the fifth spot for the Lakers, won in two sets over his competitor as he won the opening set by a score of 6-2 and the second set 7-6 with a win in the tiebreaker. 

Ali Sahibzada dropped his match in the decisive third set after rallying in the second set with a 6-4 win. The Bulldogs player would take the third set by a score of 6-2. Xavier Vicent Navarro, in the No. 2 singles spot, Krishan Taneja, in the No. 3 singles spot, and Pinnoo, in the sixth spot, all fell in two sets to Ferris.

Looking Ahead

The Lakers will wrap up their homestand tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. against the Grand Valley State Lakers in the Student Activity Center.
