UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team dropped a 71-55 decision to Hillsdale College in the GLIAC/GMAC Crossover in SVSU's home debut at James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena on Sunday. The visiting Chargers improve to 4-0 overall while the Cardinals are now 0-2 on the season.

How it Happened

• Saginaw Valley got off to a 10-5 start after Trip Riemersma (5 points) drained his only three-point field goal attempt of the afternoon with 11 minutes and 30 seconds left in the first half.
• A trey by Kyle Goessler at the 4:37 mark put Hillsdale ahead for good at 22-19, and the visitors ended the half on an 11-6 run to go up 33-25 at the break.
• Hillsdale made 26 of 57 field goals for 45.6 percent while SVSU was 19-for-52 at 36.5 percent. The Chargers also made nine more 3-pointers (13-4).
• The Cardinals controlled the glass by outrebounding the Chargers 35-30, helping scoring advantages of 8-3 in second-chance points and 28-22 in points in the paint.
• In the second half, Hillsdale opened with a 12-5 run to lead 45-30 at 16:48.
• The Cardinals were able to cut into the deficit over the next 3:08 to trail 48-39 at 13:40, as Jiovanni Miles knocked down a 3-ball and a pair of free throws during that stretch.
• But that was the last time SVSU would get within single digits as HC built as much as a 23-point lead to seal the win.
