Northwood Softball Hits A Bump In The Road, Drops Two To Grand Valley

LOCATION: Fisher Stadium – Midland, Michigan

RECAP: Northwood's softball team was back at Fisher Stadium following the doubleheader sweep of Wayne State (April 14). This time they played host to Grand Valley State. GVSU would take both games behind their potent offense and Northwood miscues.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Lakers scored early in the first with a four-foot single, a stolen base, and a double to the left-center gap, 1-0 GV.
  • Alexis Koehler led off the game with a single through the right side. Then a walk by Haley Frank moved her to second. Delanie Grundman would hit one back to the pitcher that would turn into a throwing error to third that would lead to both runners scoring, 2-1 NU.
  • GV would answer right back in the second with a bases-clearing double that allowed the hitter to get to third on the throw, 4-2 GV.
  • The back-and-forth scoring would continue with back-to-back doubles by Madelin Skene and Gabby Schloop to lead off the bottom of the second, 4-3 GV.
  • A sac-fly pop up deep in the hole behind second by Gianna Fantin would tie it at four-all.
  • Later in the second, Delanie Grundman's single up the middle would score Alexis Koehler from second following her stolen base, 5-4 NU.  
  • GV would get two more in the third behind two infield singles, 6-5 GV.
  • The Lakers would add three more in the sixth to push their lead to 9-5.
  • Northwood would get bases loaded in the seventh but would be unable to overcome the deficit.

  • The Lakers would put three runs across early in the first behind three hits and an error, 3-0 GV.
  • GV would add a homerun in the third to push their lead to 4-0.
  • Northwood was able to load the bases in the third but was unable to score any.
  • The Lakers broke the game open in the fourth plating four more in the fourth via three defensive miscues and two hits, 8-0 GV.
  • The lead would be too much for the Timberwolves as they fell in five innings, 8-0.
