UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team made history twice in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Davenport University Thursday at the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.
Maddie Barrie and Maddie Maloney each scored the 1,000th-point of their careers, both reaching the milestone on second-half free throws, as the Cardinals held off the Panthers for a 65-57 win. The victory moves SVSU to 16-9 overall and 11-7 in the GLIAC heading into the final game of the regular season.
How it Happened:
- Both teams started off slow with Maddie Maloney breaking the ice with a 3-pointer nearly three minutes in to give the Cardinals the lead.
- SVSU went on a 10-0 run to close the first quarter capped by a layup from Victoria Stafford, giving the Cardinals a 16-7 lead after one.
- The Cardinals led by as many as 11 in the second quarter, but the Panthers trimmed the deficit to 27-21 heading to the break.
- Leading by three points in the final minute of the third, Kaitlyn Zarycki hit a layup to make it a 44-39 lead for SVSU after the third.
- With 6:48 to play, Maloney hit the second of a pair of free throws to reach 1,000 points for her career.
- Maloney helped the Cardinals pull away late with a pair of critical 3-pointers.
- In the final minute with the Cardinals up six, Maddie Barrie caught an inbounds pass and was fouled. She hit her first free throw to reach 1,000 points for her career.

- Kaitlyn Zarycki led the Cardinal scorers with 18 points, adding five rebounds and three assists.
- Maddie Maloney finished with 16 points, including three 3-pointers, adding four assists.
