BIG RAPIDS, MICH. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team traveled to Ferris State University for a GLIAC matchup Thursday afternoon. The Cardinals (11-13, 6-8 GLIAC) looked to climb the GLIAC playoff ladder while the Bulldogs (20-6, 11-4 GLIAC) battle for the top-seed.

Four players found themselves in double digits for SVSU but it was not enough to get the team ahead of Ferris State when the final horn sounded. Freddie McIntosh led all scorers with 22 points while Tre Garrett, Jiovani Miles, and Chansey Willis Jr. scored 13, 12, and 10 respectively.

The game started with a quick layup from Freddie McIntosh before the two teams traded buckets back and forth for the next 13 mintues. Ferris state went on a 10-1 run over the next 5 minutes until Chansey Willis Jr. was able to get a layup to fall with three minutes remaining. Off of a Bulldog turnover, McIntosh went to score five straight points to bring SVSU within seven at the half.

The second half proved that this was a game of answers. Willis Jr. got a quick steal which turned into a fast break for McIntosh before Ferris State made a layup of their own on the next possession. The Cardinals went on a 7-0 four minutes into the half to bring them back to even at 49 thanks to a Jiovanni Miles three-pointer. The Bulldogs maintained the lead from then on and were able to close out the game on free-throws.
