Ferris State Men's Tennis Opens Key Weekend With Big Home Win Over Ashland

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team opened up an important Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) weekend homestand with a 5-2 triumph over Ashland on Saturday (April 7) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs rolled to the win over the Eagles by sweeping the doubles round and capturing four of the six singles spots while improving to 4-1 in conference play.

Entering the match, the Bulldogs led the Eagles by only a single match in the upper half of the conference standings.

Ferris State utilized eight different players in the victory with seven of the eight garnering at least one win for a point in the final team score.

In the doubles round, FSU got the initial point of the match by taking all three flights with dominating wins of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-2 from the first to third positions, respectively.

The momentum continued into singles play where Ferris State managed to win the second, third, fourth and fifth flights with a strong middle lineup, which included a three-set victory at two singles. The lone wins for Ashland came at the first and six spots in the singles lineup.

The Eagles dropped to 9-9 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC with the loss while FSU is now 6-9 overall this season.

Ferris State hosts league leader Wayne State in a key conference match on Sunday (April 6) with match time set for 10 a.m. (ET) at the Racquet and Fitness Center. The first 50 FSU fans will receive a free t-shirt.
