Ferris State Begins Final Regular-Season Weekend With Dominating Win Over SVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad opened its final weekend of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a dominating 3-0 win over Saginaw Valley State on Friday (April 2) evening inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs bolted in front early and claimed the match by scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-18 to move to 9-4 overall this year. With the loss, SVSU fell to 4-9 in league action.

Ferris State compiled a .300 hitting figure for the match, totaling 37 kills and only 10 attack errors on 90 attempts. Additionally, FSU finished with 10 service aces and six blocks.

On the flip side, FSU also limited the Cardinals to a .010 attack percentage, which included a -.056 showing in the second frame. SVSU netted 27 kills with 26 attack errors on 103 total attempts.

The Bulldogs had a balanced effort individually as 12 different players saw action in the win. No one totaled more than eight kills with the trio of Samantha Hermann, Katie O'Connell and Kira Merkle all notching eight apiece. Audrey Bellina came off the bench to register six kills to help the cause.

Meanwhile, libero Nina Gorgijevska paced FSU with 15 digs and O'Connell totaled nine for the Bulldogs. Freshman Kaylee Maat had 31 assists with four different players totaling two blocks each.

The Cardinals were led by Maria Vukaj's match-high 10 kills. Juliana Dunning posted 16 assists.

Ferris State hit an impressive .407 in the first set and posted a .243 figure or better in each of the three sets of action.

Both Keona Salesman and Maat had three service aces apiece for FSU while Lauren Cox came on and recorded a match-high four aces, matching the Cardinals' output from the service line by herself.

The two teams will square off in the weekend finale on Saturday (April 3) with match time set for 4 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.
