Bulldogs sweep series opener from Cardinals

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team opened the final regular-season series of the 2021 season at Ferris State University Friday in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldogs controlled the match, sweeping the Cardinals in three sets, 25-15, 25-13, 25-18, dropping SVSU to 4-9 overall, and in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season.

Juliana Dunning led the Cardinals in assists with 16, while reigning GLIAC North Division Player of the Week Maria Vukaj finished with a team-high 10 kills, adding nine digs.

Libero Kelsey Vitittow reocred nine digs, while Rylee Zimmer, Haley Clum and Emily Friesl each finished with three total blocks.

The Bulldogs were led Kaylee Maat with 31 assists, while Nina Gorgijevska finished with a match-high 15 digs.

The series closes with the final match of the regular season for the Cardinals at 4 pm Saturday in Big Rapids.
