Women's Tennis Sweeps Purdue Northwest, 7-0

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (8-2 overall, 7-2 GLIAC) swept Purdue Northwest (3-9 overall, 0-9 GLIAC) in its final conference match of the season.

DOUBLES RESULTS
At No. 2 doubles, freshman Laura Cazacu (London, England) and sophomore Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) won their match against Giulia Castiglioni and Pia Schmedding, 6-1.

Senior Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) and sophomore Stephanie Stamate (Windsor, Ont.) partnered up at No. 3 doubles and defeated Anna Wachowski and Carolina Yepez, 6-1.

Senior Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and redshirt sophomore Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) earned the final doubles victory for WSU at one, against Lena van Bergen and Patricia Dizon (6-2).

SINGLES RESULTS
Da-Silva swept Dizon at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-0).

At No. 3 singles, Liong won her match against Schmedding (6-1, 6-1).

Cazacu played at No. 2 singles, winning against Castiglioni (6-4, 6-0).

At No. 1 singles, Kuznetsova earned a first-set win, lost the second in a tiebreaker, but pulled through in the third against Bergen (6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 10-5).

Ciellza was next off the courts at No. 6 singles. She won her match against Wachowski (6-2, 6-2).

Stamate was last to finish, with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Yepez.

UP NEXT
The Warriors will compete against Ferris State at the GLIAC Championships in Midland, Mich. on Oct. 26.
