Lacrosse closes road swing at Lewis this Friday

Concordia will face second inaugural program in past three games

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Friday, Concordia (5-4, 2-2 GLIAC) closes out a three game road swing with a trip to Romeoville, Illinois to face inaugural program Lewis University (1-3, 1-2 GLIAC) at 4 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.

It's the second inaugural program CSP will face in the three game road stretch after CSP defeated Maryville 18-3 last Friday night in St. Louis, Missouri.

GLIAC LANDSCAPE
The Golden Bears are currently tied for fourth in the GLIAC, one game behind Grand Valley State (3-1) and a game and a half behind McKendree (4-1). CSP is tied with Davenport and a half game ahead of Lewis.

In league play (4 games), Concordia has a pair of top-10 goal scorers in juniors Alina Boyce and Maddie Hentges with 13 goals apiece, tied for eighth in the conference. Hentges is also tied for 13th in the league with 16 points scored. Hentges put up five goals and seven points in the win at Maryville, the points ranks fourth in a game in team history and the five goals is seventh-most.

Freshman Sara McNicoll is tied for 11th in the league with six assists and has scored 10 points across the four league contests. Her three assists at Maryville last weekend is tied for fourth-most in a game in team history and just one shy of the record which has been achieved three times.

In the net, junior Katie Lottsfeldt is tied for fourth in the league with 20 ground balls and sixth in hte league with 19 saves. Lottsfeldt had a high of eight ground balls in a game, just four shy of the single-game high in the nation and 28th-most in a DII game this season.

CSP's top-ranked defender in conference play has been sophomore Lexi Stanley, ranked sixth with nine caused turnovers, seventh with 16 ground balls and 13th with 15 draw controls. Her nine ground balls last weekend against Maryville are just three shy of the single-game high in Division II women's lacrosse on the season and the 19th-most in the country in a game and also the second-most in a game in program history. She also had five caused turnovers in the Maryville win, just one shy of the school record of six which has been done three times previous. Stanley's big weekend also included six draw controls at McKendree on Sunday, just two shy of the school record and tied for the fifth-most in a game at CSP.

MILESTONE WEEKEND
Last weekend, Concordia had multiple players reach individual milestones highlighted by the 100th career goal by Maddie Hentges and Katie Lottsfeldt's 300th save. Hentges scored her milestone goal in Sunday's road loss at McKendree while Lottsfeldt registered just two saves while splitting time in net last Friday night in an 18-3 win at Maryville, but the second save was the 300th of her career.

Additionally, Alina Boyce joined Hentges as the second player to reach 100 career points, surging past the milestone now with 106. Next up on the 100 points watch list is junior Kailey Heinl with 99. Heinl is also on deck for 100 career goals with 87 with Boyce third on the CSP list with 80. Heinl is also closing in 100 career draw controls with 90, which 24 ahead of second in program history (Sheala Osborne, 66, 2017-18) and is three caused turnovers shy of becoming the first to 50.

ABOUT THE FLYERS
Lewis won its first game in program history on Saturday, March 9 by one goal, 8-7 over Maryville in its first-ever home game in the sport. The win improved the squad to 1-2 on the year but the team has already had to face nationally-ranked Indianapolis twice, falling 24-1 and 31-1 to the league favorite Greyhounds. Lewis also dropped its first-ever game 16-2 to Alabama Huntsville in a game played on Maryville's campus in St. Louis.

Picked eighth out of nine in the GLIAC women's lacrosse preseason coaches poll, the Flyers have scored 12 goals across their first four games and are led by Lindsey Traub's five while Alyson Jines has added four goals in three games. Mackenzie Turner has chipped in a pair of goals and leads the team with two assists while Scarlet Kellner has the team's only other points with one goal and one assist.

Traub also leads the team with 13 draw controls and eight caused turnovers and is second with eight ground balls. Brittany Scharff leads the team with nine ground balls.

In net, the Flyers have rotated their two goalies to an almost exact 50/50 split with Faith Engle playing in and starting three of the four games with 90 minutes played while Elizabeth  Baeder has played 88:30 across three games with one start. Engle leads the duo with a .438 save percentage and a 27.33 goals against average while Baeder has a .245 save percentage and 25.08 goals against average.

ON DECK: MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Following the conclusion of the three game road swing through the Illinois and Missouri squads in the GLIAC, Concordia will face Northern Michigan in a home/away back-to-back set next Friday, April 5 at 6 p.m. at the Concordia Dome before heading to Marquette on Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Wednesday, April 10 for a 5 p.m. tilt against the Wildcats.

Concordia's next home game against NMU is Golden Bears Vs. Cancer and Youth Night. All kids 12 and under wearing a jersey of any type will receive admission for $1 and all profits from the game will go to the Lacrosse Vs. Cancer Foundation.
