Golden Bears post second shutout of the year against UW-Stout

Concordia has seven players record at least three points in the win

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Paced by a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defensive effort, Concordia-St. Paul was able to even its record at 4-4 with a 21-0 shutout win over the University of Wisconsin-Stout (0-3) on Tuesday night at the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium.

The Golden Bears enter Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference play this Friday on the road at Northern Michigan.

Concordia recorded its second shutout in a three-game span this year, and the third shutout in program history while limiting the Blue Devils to just three total shots (two on goal) as CSP had 17 caused turnovers.

The Golden Bears racked up a 9-0 margin in the first quarter to set the tone. CSP's lead grew to a running time (10-goal) margin with 5:34 to play in the second quarter, accelerating the pace of play the rest of the evening.

Junior Taylor Preece led CSP with seven points, scoring four times and adding three assists while freshman Lauren Sheets had a team-high five-goal performance. Freshman Morgan Haapala added six points, scoring twice and distributing a team-leading four assists.

Joining Preece and Sheets with hat tricks was freshman Sara Kaiser with three goals, adding an assist for a four-point night.

Also contributing an offensive four-point game was freshman Susie Monson with a pair of goals and a pair of assists.

Kayleigh Nelson and Anna Fisher each had three-point games with a goal and two assists.

Concordia's offensive set was productive, with 15 assists on 21 goals. The impressive offensive night featured the 21 goals coming on 36 total shots with 28 of them on goal with 10 different players scoring.

Defensively, CSP registered 17 caused turnovers led by Monson and Sydney Smith with four each while Preece and Kennedy Bolander each had a pair. Monson and Smith also each added four ground balls.

Concordia's defense only allowed three total shots, with only a pair on goal.

Monson had a big all-around night, also adding a team-high four draw controls, with Kaiser and Maddie Westberg each securing three.

The shutout was a combination between senior starter Candace McDole, who made a pair of saves in the first 30 minutes before junior Maddy Huebner finished the job.

The Golden Bears held a final 36-3 shot margin, 29-16 in ground balls and 18-5 in draw controls. The contest, played mostly in CSP's offensive zone or in the midfield, only featured 15 total clearance attempts.
