HAMMOND, Ind. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team earned an 83-80 win over Purdue Northwest on Thursday night. The Cardinals improve to 14-13 overall and 9-8 in league play. The win keeps SVSU in sixth place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings.

Freddie McIntosh scored 27 points on 11-19 shooting from the floor to lead the Cardinals in the winning effort. Chansey Willis Jr. finished with 20 points and Tre Garrett contributed 17 to the cause.

The Pride used an 8-0 run in the opening four minutes of the game to take a 10-2 lead early. SVSU battled back with a 5-0 run that cut the deficit to 14-10 with 12:27 left before the half. Purdue Northwest extended the lead to 27-12 with a 9-0 run that spanned 2:20 and dipped the clock below the halfway point of the opening period. The gap remained in that range until the teams entered the locker room at the break.

Willis Jr. drilled a three to start the second half and bring the deficit back to single digits. Timely three-point jumpers helped the Cardinals trim the lead until the final 6:19 when SVSU rolled with a 26-7 run in which the Prides' only points came from free throws while Saginaw Valley shot 11-13 from the floor. McIntosh scored 15 points in that stretch including the final three points that closed the gap and earned the Cardinals win.
