Korolden Leads Baseball to Series Victory

Wayne State took game four 13-3 and will play next at Findlay on March 8th.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Wayne State University baseball program (6-2) won Sunday's series finale 13-3 over UIndy (4-6).  A five-run second inning and an impressive start from Ryan Korolden (Yale, Mich.) (1-1) led WSU to a series victory.  The Warriors outscored the Greyhounds 55-21 during the four games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors used three walks and a UIndy error to score the first three runs of the game in the top of the second inning.  Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) added an RBI single before Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) made it 5-0 with RBI double into right field.

Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline) grounded out to first base in the top of the fourth inning but was able to extend WSU's lead to 6-0 as Jacoby Dale (Roseville, Mich.) scored on the play.  The Greyhounds trimmed their deficit to 6-1 with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett) led off the ninth inning with a double before Foley used a bunt single to reach.  After a hit-by-pitch, a wild pitch allowed Miller to score and make it 7-1. Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) put the game out of reach with a Grand Slam, his second long ball of the season, stretching the visitor's lead to 11-1.  After a Kyle Domzalski (Huntington Woods, Mich. / Berkley) single, Jacob Badalamenti (Harrison Twp., Mich. / Warren De La Salle) sent a laser over the left field, giving the Green & Gold a 13-1 advantage.

The home team used two hits and a walk to score two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

AT THE PLATE
DeLanoy drove in a team-high four runs with one swing of the bat, while Domzalski went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.  Foley, Finkbeiner and Tanderys all had two hits.

ON THE MOUND
Korolden struck out a career-best nine batters over eight innings and allowed just one run on two hits ans two walks.  Chad Sommers (Jonesville, Mich.) allowed two runs in his inning of relief.

UP NEXT
WSU will play at Findlay on March 8th at 3:00 p.m. before heading to Florida for Spring Break.
