Wildcats edge Cardinals in four sets in Marquette

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team concluded a two-game series at Northern Michigan University Saturday in Marquette, Mich.

The Cardinals fell by the closest of margins in the first two sets but responded with a win in the third. Tied at 18-18 in the fourth, NMU went on a 7-1 run to close out the match, 25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19.

The loss drops SVSU to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Maria Vukaj led the Cardinal offense with 13 kills, adding six digs and three total blocks. Haley Clum finished with 12 kills and six total blocks, while Juliana Dunning recorded 29 assists.

Addison Bouza finished with a team-high 12 digs, and Kelsey Vittitow added 11 to go along with three service aces.

Hailey Wickstrom and Jacqueline Smith each finished with a match-high 15 kills to lead the Wildcats.

SVSU returns home to host Grand Valley State University at 5 pm Friday at Hamilton Gymnasium in University Center, Mich.
