NMU's Fourth Quarter Surge Spoils Ferris State's GLIAC Tourney Appearance

Marquette, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team fell 65-51 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Quarterfinals to the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Tuesday (March 5) at the Berry Events Center in Marquette as FSU's campaign came to a close.

The Bulldogs were led by sophomore guard Adrienne Anderson's 12 points. Ferris State led at the half and were deadlocked at 48-48 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats surged past FSu in the final period to advance to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals.

Ferris State junior forwards Riley Blair and Brayene Benner each picked up eight points in the contest while sophomore guard Shaniya Huggins pulled down a team-best six rebounds.

From the field, the Bulldogs shot 35.3 percent, but were efficient in the middle two quarters of the game. Ferris State shot 11.1 percent from the floor in the final quarter of regulation after shooting 52.9 percent in the second and 41.7 percent in the third.

The Wildcats out-rebounded the Bulldogs 41-23 in the contest and had 30 points in the paint to Ferris State's 14 overall.

NMU was led by the 19 points and 13 rebounds of Jessica Schultz, who also had three blocks and three assists in the outing. Four Wildcats reached double-digits, including Schultz, as Erin Honkala added 12 points while Elizabeth Lutz and Sydney Dillinger each finished with 10 points. NMU shot 45.1 percent from the field for the game.

Ferris State finished its season at 14-13 overall, which represents the first winning season for the Bulldogs since the 2011-12 campaign.

Two Bulldog seniors had their careers come to a close in Alexis Bush and Abby Nakfoor, who helped FSU reach the GLIAC Tournament for the second consecutive campaign.
