HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Wayne State University dropped to GLIAC opponent Hillsdale (7-5, 7-4 GLIAC), 5-4, on Friday afternoon at the Biermann Center. The Warriors (8-3, 7-3 GLIAC) are tied-for-third the league with one match remaining in the regular season.
DOUBLES - Junior
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) and senior
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) defeated Dana Grace Buck and Corinne Prost, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.
- Freshmen pair
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont. / Northview Heights S.S.) and
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia / Moscow School 45) fell short, 9-8 (4), to Halle Hyman and Lindsay Peirce at the first flight.
- Juniors
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) were topped by Sydney Delp and Jada Bissett, 8-5, at the third position.
SINGLES - Mitrache bested Hyman in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, at the first singles flight. The junior continued her winning-streak of 10 matches, which improves her career singles record to 45-10.
- Sophomore
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil / Unificado) beat Julia Formentin, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6 singles, while Peisachovitz won 7-5, 6-3, over Buck at the third position.
- Senior
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) was defeated in three sets, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3, to Madeline Bissett at the fifth flight, and Kuznetsova was topped by Delp, 7-6 (4), 6-3, at the fourth spot.
- Poissant lost in two-sets, 6-1, 6-2, to Prost at No. 2 singles.
UP NEXT - WSU will travel to University Center, Mich. for its last regular season match versus conference opponent Saginaw Valley on Oct. 19. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the SVSU Fieldhouse. The Warriors defeated the Cardinals, 8-1, last season.
