Baseball Wins Battle of Warriors

Wayne State overcame a 2-0 deficit to win 6-2 over Winona State.

KISSIMMEE- Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (10-3 overall) returned to action on Monday against Winona State (6-4 overall) and the Green & Gold won, 6-3, in the battle of the Warriors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Winona State jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning but that would be all the offense Max Moon (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Gabriel Richard) (2-0) would allow.  Wayne State answered with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game.  CJ Drogosch (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) started the scoring with an RBI single into left field.  Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich.) evened the score with an RBI single into left field.

Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline) drew a leadoff walk to begin the bottom of the second inning and advanced to second base when Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) was plunked.  Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day / The Lawrenceville School) flied to right and Foley took third base on the play.  Tristen Jorah (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Sterling Heights Stevenson) plated the eventual game-winning run with a sacrifice fly to center field.

WSU added three runs on two hits in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6-2 lead.  After back-to-back hit-by-pitches, Foley singled to right field to drive in a run and Finkbeiner followed with a two-run double into center field.

Moon controlled the Winona State lineup the rest of the way but did allow a run in the top of the ninth on a sac fly.

AT THE PLATE
Finkbeiner went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Drogosch also posted a two-hit game.  Foley scored two runs, drew two walks and stole a base.

ON THE MOUND
Moon notched his first career complete game, going all nine innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and four walks, while striking out three batters.

UP NEXT
Wayne State will play two ranked teams on Tuesday beginning with No. 15 Augustana at 1:30 PM and then 10th-ranked West Chester at 5:00 p.m.  The two opponents have won each of the last two national championships.
