Men's Basketball Unable to Slow Down Ferris State In 93-67 Setback

Gordon and Murray each score 20 points against the Bulldogs.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball program (4-13 overall, 1-12 GLIAC) fell 93-67 to 11th-ranked Ferris State University (21-4 overall, 10-3 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon inside the Matthaei.  WSU has lost 10 in a row and is still searching for its first home court victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ferris State scored the first five points of the game and led 16-6 at the 15:46 mark after a triple by Walt Kelser.  Cole Walker followed with another long-range jumper to push the advantage to 19-6 with 14:32 left in the stanza.  Senior guard Brailen Neely (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) slowed FSU's momentum a bit with a layup at the 13:41 mark to make it 19-8.  The Bulldogs answered quickly and led 22-9 at the under-12 media timeout.  A bucket from senior guard Karim Murray (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) at the 9:48 mark trimmed the visitor's lead to 29-15, but the Bulldogs held onto a 33-17 advantage with seven minutes left before intermission.  Ferris State's ninth three-pointer of the afternoon extended its lead to 41-23 with 4:14 to play.  The Warriors ended the half on an 8-0 run after a jumper by sophomore guard Antonio Marshall (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) and back-to-back treys from graduate forward James Gordon IV (Shelbyville, Ky. / Chicago Simeon) which brought WSU within 12 at 48-36.

The WSU run reached 13-0 to begin the second half as the Warriors notched the first five points to trim the deficit to 48-41 at the 18:32 mark.  An offensive rebound by FSU led to a dunk by Logan Ryan which gave the Bulldogs a 55-43 advantage.  Gordon knocked down a three-pointer to bring the Warriors within nine, 55-46, with 16 minutes remaining.  The visitors led 61-47 at the 13:17 mark and the margin grew to 71-51 at the 10:18 mark after back-to-back triples by FSU.  Neely trimmed FSU's lead to 75-60 with a jumper with 7:08 left to play.  The Bulldogs would go on to win 93-67.
