Cardinals fall at home to Northern Michigan, 3-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Cardinal Men's Soccer team hosted the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday (Oct. 25) afternoon at Braddock Field in a league matchup. The Wildcats would come out on top in the end, defeating SVSU by a 3-0 score.

NMU scored the only goal of the first half, taking a 1-0 lead when Ryan Palmbaum put the visitors on top in the 31st minute. 

In the second half, Ben Hoffman put the Wildcats up 2-0 with a score in the 66th minute. That lead grew to 3-0 in the 77th minute, putting Northern Michigan up three late in the contest.

That is where the score stood, as the 'Cats sealed the victory to move to 6-8-0 overall and 5-5-0 in the GLIAC. SVSU falls to 8-5-1 overall and 6-4-0 in league action.  

Inside the Boxscore

  • Northern Michigan posted a slim 10-9 edge in overall shots and put up a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
  • SVSU had six corner kicks to the Wildcats' three in the match.
  • Connor Rutz had a team-high five shots with two on-goal for the Cards.
  • Mason Maziasz (7-3-1) had one save and allowed three goals in taking the loss in net.
