FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (2-1 overall, 1-1 GLIAC) traveled to the University of Findlay (0-1 overall, 0-0 GMAC) on Friday and defeated the Oilers, 6-1.
DOUBLES RECAP
Sophomores
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) and
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam / Netherlands) were the first to step off the court after their three doubles match against Mikaela Hindenlang and Sullivan Sanders. Â They represented the Warriors, winning the match (6-2).
Next to finish was one doubles, where freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) and sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) fell short to Samantha Sweet and Laura Brito (6-4).
Two doubles seniors
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) pulled a win over Sheridan McLean and Eliza Kirov (7-6) in a 6-4 tiebreaker.
SINGLES RECAP
Liong nearly swept her match against opponent McLean at two singles (6-1, 6-0).
Ciellza was next off the court, representing the Warriors at six singles after successfully facing Sanders (6-0, 6-1).
Jewell had a strong finish against Findlay's Hindenlang at the fifth flight (6-1, 6-1).
At three singles, Cazacu had a close match against Kirov but ended on a high note (6-4, 6-3).
Douglas fell short in her match against Brito at four singles (6-2, 6-1).
Kuznetsova fought her way through a third set to defeat Sweet at one singles (6-3, 3-6, 10-8).
UP NEXT
The Warriors travel to Ashland, Ohio on Saturday to take on the Eagles.
