UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team fell to Northern Michigan University 59-39 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena on Monday. The Cardinals record falls to 13-8 overall and 8-6 in the GLIAC. 

How it happened:

• The Cardinals jumped out to an 8-4 lead before going cold from the floor. 
• NMU went on a 16-0 run to close the first and to start the second before a Tori DePerry jumper stopped it with 6:08 left in the first half. 
• SVSU closed the first half with layups by Kaitlyn Zarycki and a Maddie Barrie jumper. NMU took a 27-19 lead into the halftime break. 
• The Wildcats maintained their lead in the third quarter but a Rachel Rustad 3-pointer cut the lead to just six. 
• NMU held SVSU to just six points in the final quarter and pulled away for the victory. 

Inside the Box Score:

• Tyler Schied scored nine points on 4-of-8 shooting to lead SVSU. 
• Zarycki posted eight points for the Cardinals. 
• Tori DePerry grabbed eight rebounds.
• SVSU was 16-of-47 from the field, 3-of-15 from deep, and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. 
• The Wildcats were led by Makaylee Kuhn, who scored a game-high 25 points.

SVSU will travel to the Upper Peninsula to face Michigan Tech at 5:30 pm Thursday evening from Houghton, Mich.
