Ferris State Basketball Tops Stars From Past In Annual Alumni Game

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad welcomed back stars from the past on Sunday (Oct. 23) for its annual Alumni game and came away with a 107-69 victory over an outstanding group of alums.

The current Bulldogs built a 51-33 halftime lead and tallied 56 points in the second half en route to the win.

Overall, a total of nine different Bulldogs saw action in the win against the alumni team that utilized 13 players, including the entire starting backcourt from FSU's 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship squad in legends Drew Cushingberry, Peter Firlik and Noah King.

This year's squad was led by Solomon Oraegbu, who totaled a game-high 21 points. Sophomore Ethan Erickson tallied 18 points from three three-point line with Deng Reng notching 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds. The Bulldogs also got 12 points from newcomer Amari Lee and 13 of the 14 FSU players scored in the victory.

Meanwhile, Cushingberry led the alumni team with 16 points while adding a game-high nine rebounds and six assists. Former standout Josh Fleming, who is now an assistant coach at FSU, added 15 points with big man Cole Walker contributing 12 points while going four-of-seven from the three-point arc.

The alumni squad featured players from many generations of Bulldog Basketball and was coached by former two-sport Bulldog standout and national champion DeShaun Thrower. Including Thrower, a total of seven members of the national championship team were on hand.

Along with the regulation game, the Bulldogs also pulled out a win in an early 10-minute scrimmage that featured many of the younger players along with several alumni veterans.

Ferris State will host Calvin University in an exhibition tilt on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. (ET).
