Men's Tennis Defeated by Northwood in Conference Match

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's tennis team fell to the Northwood Timberwolves by a final score of 5-2 on Friday, April 9 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich. Through the first five matches of the season, the Lakers hold a 0-5 overall record and an 0-3 record in conference play. 

The Lakers dropped the doubles point against the Timberwolves as the home team won two of the three doubles sets. The Lakers top two pairs (Juho Kantola/Harris Rehan and Xavier Vicent Navarro/Ali Sahibzada) fell to Northwood but the Lakers third pairing of Diego Penz and Seth Pinnoo would clinch their set by a score of 6-4.

In singles play, the Lakers won two of the six matches. The Lakers No. 3 player Krishan Taneja won in two sets by scores of 6-2, and 6-3. Pinnoo, the No. 6 player for LSSU, won in two sets by identical scores of 6-0 in both. 

Kantola, the Lakers No. 1 singles player, fell in two sets (7-6, 6-3) while Vicent Navarro, the Lakers No. 2 singles player, also fell in two sets. No. 4  Sahibzada and No. 5 Irfan Ul Haq both dropped their matches to Northwood in two sets.  

Looking Ahead

The Lakers will return home for a match against the Wayne State Warriors on Monday, April 12 at 9:00 a.m. in the Student Activity Center in the Norris Center.
