SVSU completes sweep with four-set win over Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team completed its first road sweep of the season, taking a second match in two days at Ashland University Saturday in Ashland, Ohio.

The Cardinals and Eagles split the first two sets to set up an even match heading to the third. Rylee Zimmer got the final kill of the third set to put SVSU up 2-1, while Maria Vukaj got the match-clinching kill in the fourth to push the Cardinals to the four-set win.

The set scores were 26-24, 17-25, 25-23, 25-22. The win moves SVSU to 4-8 overall and in the GLIAC this season.

Vuakj led the Cardinals with 17 kills and a team-high 25 digs. Zimmer finished with 15 kills and 16 digs, while Madison Thompson added 12 kills. Juliana Dunning recorded a team-high 26 assists. Peyton Gerstacker added 18 assists.

Libero Kelsey Vittitow finished with 16 digs and Haley Clum recorded a team-high four total blocks.

Erin Krupar finished with a match-high 21 kills to lead the Eagles, while Stephanie Smith finished with 45 assists.

The Cardinals close the regular season at Ferris State University with two matches starting at 7 pm Friday in Big Rapids, Mich.
