Warriors edge Huskies 4-3 in Midland BUY

MIDLAND, Mich. - Wayne State nabbed the team doubles point and held on to win 4-3 over Michigan Tech in women's tennis Sunday afternoon at Greater Midland Tennis Center. Neva Manas and Marina Fernandez briefly put the Huskies ahead 2-1 with straight sets wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively, but the Warriors came away with wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 to close it out.

"It was a tough loss for us today," said head coach Kristin Yep. "They left all their blood, sweat, and tears out there but just a couple of critical points here and there didn't go our way in the end. Give credit to Wayne State for how they played."

The Warriors swept doubles to begin the make-up Huskies home match from earlier in April. Ivona Gorgioski suffered a 6-2, 7-6(6) at No. 1 singles. Laura Cazacu downed Dominika Bobik at No. 2 singles 6-2, 7-5. Lauren Opalewski won at No. 3 singles over Brianna Douglas 6-2, 6-2. Bhavya Aggarwal was unable to compete at No. 6 and Irena Van Meer won by default.

Michigan Tech (3-6, 3-2 GLIAC) returns to Houghton to face Grand Valley State Friday, April 16 at 9 a.m. Wayne State (7-7, 3-2 GLIAC) plays Lake Superior State next.
