Northwood Softball Finishes Regular Season With Two Wins At Wayne State

RECAP: Northwood Softball finished off their regular season in style, winning both in their doubleheader at Wayne State.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Wayne would score first behind a walk single and two wild pitches and an RBI groundout to plate the first run in the first, 1-0 WSU.
  • Madison Jordan would get her second home run of the season with an opposite-field laser over the right-field fence. It would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the second.
  • Later in the third, with two outs the Timberwolves rallied after Haley Frank doubled to left field. Delanie Grundman would single up the middle to score Frank, 2-1 NU.
  • The Warriors would tie it at two in the fourth with a blooping single into no-man's land just behind the pitcher, scoring a runner from third.
  • The Timberwolves would take the lead for good in the sixth with a two-run shot to left field by Emily Mankel, her fifth this season, 4-2 NU.
  • Shayna Frank was solid again today picking up her 16th win of the season and only walking one while striking out seven.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood would go up early in the first when Alexis Koehler would lead the game off with a walk which was followed by an Emily Mankel double to center. Koehler would score all the way from first, 1-0 NU.
  • Mankel would get to third on a wild pitch and would be knocked in with a sac fly by Haley Frank, 2-0 NU.
  •  In the third, Northwood would be granted another run because of a ball being thrown away when H. Frank tagged up trying to advance to third on a Madison Jordan fly out to right, 3-0.
  • Northwood would begin their home run brigade in the fifth as H. Frank would hit a missile to left. Two batters later, Brittany Steimel would get her seventh of the season with an identical blast to left, 5-0 NU.
  • Emily Mankel would not leave quietly as she also blasted her second home run of the day with a two-run shot over the centerfield wall.
  • Hailey Leister took care of business inside the circle today, getting her second complete-game shutout this season.
