BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The No. 24 Wayne State University men's tennis squad (15-3 overall, 5-0 GLIAC) claimed a 6-1 win at 46th-ranked Ferris State (6-10 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) on Sunday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Seniors
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) were first off the courts after winning their No. 1 doubles match, 6-2, versus Steward Sell and Nur Adim Ramdami Iswan.
Redshirt junior
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman
David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) were next to finish, tallying a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles vs. Cedric Rupa and Jack Seymour.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and junior
Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) notched a 6-4 victory over Mathis Guerre and Pablo Munoz Baroja.
SINGLES RESULTS
Mertz was first to finish after nearly blanking Ayush Deswal at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-1).
Karcz won his No. 1 singles match against Sell (6-3, 6-1).
At No. 5 singles, freshman
Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) tallied a victory over Guerre (6-1, 6-2).
Renaudie walked off the courts with a victory at No. 2 singles vs. Ramdami Iswan after splitting the first two sets (5-7, 6-3, 11-9).
At No. 3 singles, Vane fell in a super tiebreaker versus Munoz Baroja (7-6(2), 2-6, 12-10).
Solar was last off the courts after winning his No. 6 singles match against Rupa (6-4, 7-5).
