Bulldogs Erupt For Seven Goals On Senior Day To Top Purdue Northwest Pride

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team rolled to a 7-0 Senior Day victory over the Purdue Northwest Pride in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Sunday (Oct. 20) at the Bulldog Soccer Field in front of a large crowd.

It took just 4:17 to find the game winning goal as junior Bri Rogers buried her fifth goal of the season, giving FSU a 1-0 lead.

Ferris State then scored twice two minutes apart to push the lead to 3-0, first at 12:44 when Rogers found Mackenzie Dawes, who drilled home her fifth goal of the season and first of two in the game. The assist was Rogers' sixth of the season.

Later, at 14:44, senior Tia VanSuilichem chipped home her third goal of the season from fellow senior Maddie Fouts. Fouts earned her second assist of the year on the play.

The Bulldogs extended the lead to 4-0 when sophomore Pia Nagel tied her career-best for single season goals, driving in her 10th of the season. VanSuilichem picked up her third assist of the season on Nagel's goal.

Then, only 90 seconds into the second half, Nagel set a new career-best for single season goals, punching in her 11th of the year and second of the contest from Mackenzie Dawes, who earned her team-best sixth assist of the season on the goal.

It took only 1:27 after Nagel's second goal for Dawes to score her second goal of the game and sixth of the season, assisted by redshirt sophomore Merin McDermott, who earned her first assist of the season on Dawes' second goal of the contest.

Finally, at 69:57, junior Sadie Pettinger drove home her first collegiate goal, assisted by sophomore Gabby Gilmore. She earned her first assist of the season on the play.

The Bulldogs dominated in shots, firing 32 to Purdue Northwest's five. Ferris State had 10 corner kicks, and didn't allow any attempts for Purdue Northwest from the corner.

Ferris State got a combined shutout from senior Alison Chesterfield (one save), sophomore Christina Tamer (two saves), and Taryn Meiste (one save) to pick up their ninth shutout of the season.

The ninth shutout for Ferris State ties the program record set originally in 2016 and tied again in 2018. 

For the Bulldogs, Chesterfield picked up the victory in 45 minutes of play, moving into a tie for fourth place all-time in school victories with 2015 graduate Maddie Haustein. Her 11th shutout of her career is good for third most in school history.

Ferris State returns to action at Davenport on Friday (Oct. 25) at 4 pm in GLIAC play at Meyering Field at the Farmer's Insurance Sports Complex.
