Cardinals hold off Panthers for 1-0 win

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team got back in the win column with a shutout of Ohio Dominican University on Sunday at the SVSU IM Field.

The Cardinals got an early goal from Kylie Lukowski, which stood as the lone score of the game as SVSU held on for a 1-0 win to move to 2-1-1 overall this season as the team is set to open the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season next weekend.

Lukowski's goal came in the 11th minute after her fist shot off of a corner kick was saved. Lukowski gathered the rebound and put it home for her first goal of the season.

The Cardinals continued to bombard the ODU goal the rest of the game, but Jadelyn McNerney made 13 saves for the Panthers to keep her team in the game until the final whistle.

Madie Saleh, Sarah Fredrick, and Jessie Falloon each recorded four shots in the game, as the Cardinals outshot the Panthers 31-6. SVSU took eight corner kicks to just one for ODU.

Lainey Garbarz (2-0-0) made her second start of the season, making three saves for the shutout. She has not allowed a goal through 180 minutes this season.

The Cardinals open the GLIAC season against Davenport University at 1 pm on Friday at the SVSU IM Field.
