Strong ties SVSU record, Cardinals fall 3-2 at NMU

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell on the road at Northern Michigan University on Friday 3-2. The Cardinals record falls to 10-3-2 overall and 7-3-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

The game was scoreless until the 18th minute when Stephanie Strong scored her 12th goal of the season and put SVSU up 1-0. The goal ties Strong for the SVSU all-time program record for goals in a season with Jenna Prior (2004), Tammie Edmunds (2006), Kim Oberski (2008), Jaclyn Barnett (2009).

The Wildcats responded with three goals in the 33rd, 65th, and 74th minute and went ahead 3-1. SVSU cut the lead in half with a goal by Reegan Kingpavong in the 76th minute, but the Cardinals were unable to find the equalizer and ultimately fell 3-2. 

Olivia Argeros made five saves in net for the Cardinals. NMU outshot SVSU 16-13.

SVSU remains on the road for a matchup with Michigan Tech at noon on Sunday in Houghton, Mich.
