Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad had its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship run come to a finish on Saturday (March 4) as the Bulldogs fell to Northern Michigan 67-59 in a tightly-contested semifinal game inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.
The Bulldogs battled the Wildcats to the finish, but came up short as NMU moved into Sunday's GLIAC Tournament Championship game.
Ferris State fell to 23-8 overall this season with the setback.
The Bulldogs will now await the NCAA Division II Selection Show set for late Sunday night at 11 p.m. (ET) at NCAA.com.
Ferris State, which was missing two all-conference players for the contest, got 12 points each from the trio of Amari Lee, Ben Davidson and Dolapo Olayinka. Reece Hazelton added 11 points off the bench for FSU.
The Bulldogs shot only 24.5% for the game and finished four-of-21 (19%) from long range along with 29-of-35 (82.9%) at the free throw line, including a 10-of-10 performance from Lee.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats made 39% of their field goals and hit on nine-of-26 (34.6%) long range tries along with 12-of-22 (54.5%) free throws. MTU out rebounded FSU 45-40 for the day, grabbing 13 offensive rebounds in the process.
The Wildcats were led by Max Bjorklund with 23 points and 10 rebounds. He hit a key three-point shot in the final seconds to push the margin to two scores after the Bulldogs had pulled back within striking distance. Max Weisbrod added 15 points.
With the win, Northern Michigan improved to 23-7 on the year.
