Golden Bears drop Florida opener to #18 Seton Hill

CSP wins second half, but can't overcome first half drought

ST. LEO, Fla. - Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse (4-3) dropped its three-game spring trip opener 13-6 on Monday afternoon to #18 Seton Hill on Monday afternoon at University Turf Stadium on the campus of Saint Leo University.

The Golden Bears have an off day on Tuesday, returning to the field on Wednesday at 11 a.m. (central time) to face Stonehill University at Palm Bay Magnet High School in Melbourne, Florida, hosted by Florida Tech University.

Concordia scored first as Hailey Hartlage broke the ice with her 10th goal of the year just over a minute into the game. Concordia held the lead for over half of the first quarter when Seton Hill tied the game with 6:19 to play. The game stayed low scoring until Seton Hill claimed its first - and final - lead of the day, scoring with 1:50 to play in the first quarter, taking a 3-1 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, the 18th-ranked Seton Hill squad put some distance in the scoring margin, outscoring CSP 6-0 as part of a nine goal scoring streak spanning 21:19 of the first half for a 9-1 halftime lead.

Concordia's Taylor Preece snapped the run 16 seconds into the third quarter on a free position shot and Maddy Seifert and Delaney Davidson scored three-straight goals late in the third through the middle of the fourth quarter to bring Concordia back within six, 11-5 with 7:13 to play.

Davidson had a pair of goals on the day to lead Concordia while Seifert had a pair of points, scoring with 3:45 in the third and assisting on Davidson's second goal with 7:13 in the fourth.

Hannah Thompson scored a minute later for Seton Hill to push the lead back to seven goals with just over six minutes to go, making a late comeback difficult on a day when Concordia lost the draw 16-7 including 5-0 in the fourth quarter.

Mary Keating added a fourth quarter goal for the Golden Bears with 3:01 left to round out the team's scoring.

While Concordia lost the draw by over a 2-to-1 margin in the game, CSP stayed close in the shot column with Seton Hill holding a slim 35-31 edge. Concordia made up for the draw by collecting a significant 25-10 ground ball advantage including 8-1 in the fourth quarter, and turned the ball over five fewer times (20-15).

Goalie Candace McDole saved eight shots, allowing 13 goals while facing 31 total shots on the day. She also had a team-high four caused turnovers and eight ground balls.

Molly Moynihan added three caused turnovers and three ground balls while Lily Walesheck had four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Seton Hill was led by Skylar Orlowski's four goal game while Megan Bunker scored three in the winning effort.
